Welcome to the realm of very scary faeries!

Sixteen-year-old Kaye is a modern nomad. Fierce and independent, she travels from city to city with her mother’s rock band until an ominous attack forces Kaye back to her childhood home. There, amid the industrial, blue-collar New Jersey backdrop, Kaye soon finds herself an unwilling pawn in an ancient power struggle between two rival faerie kingdoms – a struggle that could very well mean her death.

My Thoughts

I am reading this book for #FaerieAThon.  I liked this book and thought that the story was good overall. I did like the writing style, I didn’t know what to expect from Holly Black as this is the first book I have read written by her. I enjoyed how she told the story.

I did like the characters but I didn’t feel like there was character development throughout this. The one character I could see development was the character Roiben. I am hoping that I see more development with Kaye, through the rest of the series. I  thought Kaye was a little selfish and made silly choices.

I am interested to see where this series goes so I am willing to carry on with the #FaerieAThon to continue with Holly Black’s books.

If I had read this book closer to the release when I was closer to the age of the main character I think I would have liked it a little more and gave it a higher rating.

I do recommend this book to anyone interested in Faeries.

Have you read this book, what did you think? Let me know in the comments below.

-Happy Reading
