June Book Haul

Hey Readers…

I have bought 5 books and was gifted 2 books this month.

Emily Eternal by M.G.Wheaton

51fh1bWf1lL

My dad won this book in a competition for me.

Mini-synopsis from Goodreads

She’s an artificial consciousness, designed in a lab to help humans process trauma, which is particularly helpful when the sun begins to die 5 billion years before scientists agreed it was supposed to.

The Magdalene Key by Patricia Iris Kerins DHP

This is also another book my dad won for me.

I have never heard of this book before but I am interested in seeing what it is all about.

Mini-synopsis from Goodreads

Our heroine Marianna is an intuitive psychic healer and is instructed by her guiding force, The Council of Light to search for The Magdalene Key. This key holds the secret to resurrecting the Divine Feminine in humanity. To begin with, Marianna has to cleanse and clear herself of all past life and ancestral issues.

The Executioner’s Song by Norman Mailer

I picked this book up from Waterstones, I  picked this up based on the cover and the synopsis. This is a true story based on a man Gary Gilmore, who robbed and killed two men.

Mini-synopsis from Goodreads

In what is arguably his greatest work, America’s most heroically ambitious writer follows the short, blighted career of Gary Gilmore, an intractably violent product of America’s prisons who became notorious for two reasons: first, for robbing two men in 1976, then killing them in cold blood; and, second, after being tried and convicted, for insisting on dying for his crime

Ready Player One by Ernest Cline

0099560437This is my bargain from the month, I bought this for £1 from Sainsbury’s.

I have watched the film and I now want to read the book, so I am hoping that I like this as much as I liked the film.

Mini-synopsis from Goodreads

IN THE YEAR 2044, the reality is an ugly place. The only time teenage Wade Watts really feels alive is when he’s jacked into the virtual utopia known as the OASIS. Wade’s devoted his life to studying the puzzles hidden within this world’s digital confines, puzzles that are based on their creator’s obsession with the pop culture of decades past and that promise massive power and fortune to whoever can unlock them.

The Looming Tower Al-Qaeda’s Road to 9/11 by Lawrence Wright

9780141029351This is something I also picked up from Waterstone’s. I picked up this book because I was drawn to the subject of the book. I have read lots of books on the 9/11 attacks.

Mini-synopsis from Goodreads

A sweeping narrative history of the events leading to 9/11, a groundbreaking look at the people and ideas, the terrorist plans and the Western intelligence failures that culminated in the assault on America. Lawrence Wright’s remarkable book is based on five years of research and hundreds of interviews that he conducted in Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Sudan, England, France, Germany, Spain, and the United States.

Chernobyl History of a Tragedy by Serhii Plokhy

9780141988351I have been on a non-fiction kick this month and it is all I want to read at the moment. I have been interested in learning more about the Chernobyl accident since I was in school and we learned about the disaster there.

Mini-synopsis from Goodreads

On the morning of April 26, 1986, Europe witnessed the worst nuclear disaster in history: the explosion of a reactor at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant in Soviet Ukraine. Dozens died of radiation poisoning, fallout contaminated half the continent, and thousands fell ill.

Blade Runner by Phillip K. Dick

download (2)This is another bargain book which I got from Sainsbury’s from £1. I have heard of this film but wanted to read the book.

Mini-synopsis from Goodreads

This text details the making of Blade Runner and its steadily improving fortunes after its indifferent reception in 1982. The film is situated in terms of the debates about postmodernism which have informed the large body of criticism devoted to it.

Let me know what you think of any of these books if you have read it in the comments below.

-Happy Reading
xoxo
